CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A Charleston lawyer has been hired as West Virginia’s Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator.
Acting Cabinet Secretary Ross Taylor of the Department of Administration announced the selection of Kim Nuckles for the position Thursday. Nuckles took over the job last month.
Nuckles’ responsibilities include advising, consulting and collaborating with state and federal agencies to develop comprehensive policies and programs. She also will develop, implement and monitor a statewide program to assure compliance with the federal ADA.
Nuckles is a 1997 graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University. She graduated from the West Virginia University College of Law in 2001 and has worked in private practice for 11 years.

Transitions from ramps to walks, gutters, or streets shall be flush and free of abrupt changes. Maximum slopes of adjoining gutters, road surface immediately adjacent to the curb ramp, or accessible route shall not exceed 1:20.
The minimum width of a curb ramp shall be 36 in (915 mm), exclusive of flared sides.
If a curb ramp is located where pedestrians must walk across the ramp, or where it is not protected by handrails or guardrails, it shall have flared sides; the maximum slope of the flare shall be 1:10. Curb ramps with returned curbs may be used where pedestrians would not normally walk across the ramp.
